My father gave me this textbook around 1988 and said work every problem in it or you will remain dumb. He also gave me an Advanced Physics textbook and another Pure Mathematics book by Backhouse. For my 17th birthday. At first I was mad. Then one day out of boredom, I opened the Add Maths textbook. I never set foot in a normal class again. I read it like a novel. I was hooked! I spent months, then years on all those books. Then on my 20th birthday, I took what was then known as the GCE. I nailed that sucker. Then took the entrance examination to the University of Stockholm at the Swedish Embassy in Lagos. Best thing my father ever gave me. I have now earned 3 Bachelor's degrees in Economics - Stockholm, Chemistry and Biochemistry - FAU Boca Raton; and 3 Masters degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences - UTS, Sydney, Biomedical Engineering - UNSW - Australia, and my last on June 29th 2018, the day before my 47th birthday, in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I have lived in about 20 countries visiting the places listed in those textbooks. For me, this book is a blessing. Get this book for your kids. You just might make them great human beings. I was so busy reading the books I never smoked or drank. I never got into trouble. Plus I never had to house chores! My mother would say leave your brother alone, he is studying. God I love this book! Literally made me who I am today.

This work is obviously a labor of love. . ..The author has chosen a wide variety of topics that illustrate many different techniques used in Polynomials, Number Theory, Quadratics, Galois Theory, Remainder and Factor Theorems, Statics, Dynamics, Linear Programming, Vectors, Complex numbers, Trigonometry and others.
The summary sheet at the end of each chapter was a thoughtful addition, and so too were the plethora of examples of increasing difficulty. Heng should be congratulated for putting together the finest book on the subject I have seen thus far.

Add Math Pure and Applied remains one of the BEST additional math text books and in general math book on the market. It provides an excellent guide for both students and teachers as well as there are many examples to depict various scenarios of material. The examples also leave out steps for the student to "fill in the blanks".(this may be a drawback for students who prefer to see all the steps). The practice exercises are set from easy to difficult in difficulty level.

An excellent book. I used it in school and i use it still for work.

All topics are clearly explained and have a good number of examples to work through. It provides an ideal introduction to most of the topics an A level student will meet - I just wish it had been recommended to me at the start of his studies!
